As the frames to a space, the treatment to a wall is elemental in transforming a lack luster room to one that is refreshing, relaxed, eye-catching, sleek, cozy, or spacious. Wall treatments range from paint to wallpaper, fabric, wood paneling, molding, plaster, and tile. Most simply, a wall treatment is anything you can do to a wall to make it complement the space and create the atmosphere you want to emanate.

The Basic: Paint and Accent Paint

… way to treat to a wall is to paint it a solid color. There are a wide range of choices out there!

You can’t go wrong with neutral hues, grays, and white. The basic wall colors emphasize the colors of furniture, art, and fabric in the room, adding contrast and making them a pop!

Creating Texture: Wallpaper

Wallpaper has definitely evolved since our grandparents’ time. It has so much potential in creating depth to a small space with the textures and patterns. Different atmospheres can be created with any wallpaper type.

Favorite wall treatments among the #PDITeam

Our founder and CEO, Jennifer Hooper, is “partial to horizontal [shiplap] siding,” but also is fond of brick and stone wall treatments. Shiplap siding are wooden boards with the long edge of the board having a recessed area, creating a gap between the boards in the finished look. The shiplap wall treatment style, as seen below, is one of her favorite design details of her home. Shiplap siding, brick, and stone “design applications become a part of the architecture” and play a great role in highlighting the space.
