This past year, we have covered two of our seven core values: Building a Positive Team and Family Spirit and Keep it real. Keep it fun. Keep it real fun! In this blog, we will be focusing on the core value of Work-Life Balance.

As previously mentioned, our 7 core values are at the heart of our decisions we make as well as what defines our company culture.

  1. Build a positive team and family spirit
  2. Keep it real. Keep it fun. Keep it real fun!
  3. Work-life balance
  4. Presume positive intent
  5. Transparency in our decisions, our choices, and our service
  6. Pursue growth and learning
  7. Add value

Balancing a professional life with a personal life never has a finish line. One can never “check that box.” As a core value, PDI strives to make that balance a priority and a reminder to simply live life.

Jill M., our Director of Residential Design, maintains a work-life balance in both her professional and personal life by “keeping a good schedule and routine, prioritizing and delegating when possible, asking for help when needed, and trying not to over commit and underperform.” With self-awareness, she “rids of perfectionism” and focuses on doing her best.

Both Sam S. and Koko G. keep work at work. Often, boundaries are needed for a balanced life. When it comes to personal time, Sam comments that you first need to “make yourself important to give yourself time.” By appreciating and respecting yourself, you are able to be present both at home and at work.

As for Karen F., our CAD Designer, she implements the 8-8-8 Rule in her life. 24 hours of a day is split into thirds with the 8-8-8 Rule, where 8 hours is for rest, 8 hours is for work, and 8 hours is for yourself. Being aware of the limits of time, Karen plans out her days. Typically, she exercises before work. Once she arrives at the office refreshed and energized from a good workout, she commits 110% of her energy to her work. Then at the end of the day, she focuses on herself once again for the remainder of the hours left for herself. With this rule, she is able to balance her time. She does admit that she is not perfect but recognizes that she is mindful of her time.

What’s the perfect balance? Our President, Liz Truesdell says, “Knowing it can never be achieved is the first step. Then you can truly free yourself to be present where you are.” Giving 100% of YOU whether in the office or at the dinner table. That is how we build relationships. “The Good Life” is built from good relationships. Good relationships, good community, keep us healthier and happier. Whether we are working or playing, we really just want to be healthy and happy, right?!

One way PDI helps the team balance work and life are by offering the flexibility of telecommuting. Whether it’s working from home, at a coffee shop, or any place they can plug in, for a certain amount of days each month they can “do life” while getting work done.

Lady Grace is giving her two cents on a day Lissa S. is working from home.
